Yeh Meri Family
IMDb Rating 9/10
Available on Amazon Prime Video
Summer of ‘69 was made famous by Bryan Adams, but the summer of ‘98 was made famous by TVF’s web series Yeh Meri Family. A comfort Hindi web series, it follows the life of Harshu over the period of summer vacation. Harshu is the middle child in the Gupta family, with an elder brother and younger sister. He is a teenager and is thus unreliable; he wants to rebel and explore the world while also looking up to his brother and parents.
Mona Singh is excellent in the role of mommy and is typical of other mothers from the middle class. The show's amazing casting of Akash Khurana in the dad part is what made me smile the entire time. Despite the fact that you are aware that mommy is usually always correct, Vishesh Bansal's portrayal of the series' protagonist, Harshu, makes you cheer for him right away.
Keep this series on your watchlist or give it a rerun; it is worth it.
Gullak
IMDb Rating 9.1/10
Available on SonyLiv
"Gullak isn't a story but a progression of tales," the show's voiceover character who serves as the storyteller (Shavinkit Singh Parihar) declares at the outset. In keeping with its promise, the series follows the Mishra family as they experience various occurrences. Geetanjali Kulkarni portrays Shanti, a devoted and caustic mother who seldom ever talks without shouting. Santosh, portrayed by Jameel Khan, is a loving and forgiving man who works for the neighborhood energy division. Anxious about the future of the family, their eldest son Annu (Vaibhav Raj Gupta) is preparing for the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) examinations with the help of his jovial younger brother Aman (Harsh Mayar). The future of the family worries Annu.
The comfort show is based on a lower middle class family and is relatable. The humor is not laugh-out-loud funny but does maintain a pleasing tone overall. In its three-season run until now, this series has never been disappointing.
