Actress Kunickaa Sadanand, who has recently entered the Bigg Boss 19 house, is no stranger to the limelight. Salman Khan, who has shared screen space with her in Pyaar Kiya Toh Darna Kya and Hum Saath-Saath Hain, gave her a warm welcome as she prepared to begin a fresh chapter on the show. But beyond her career in cinema, Kunickaa’s personal life has often drawn attention, marked by failed marriages, a long custody battle, and a highly talked-about relationship with singer Kumar Sanu.

Early Career Journey

Kunickaa began her artistic journey in Delhi with television shows before stepping into films. Interestingly, her entry into acting happened through actress Asrani’s wife, who encouraged her to pursue it. She first gained recognition with the TV serial Swabhimaan, where she portrayed the mother of an 18-year-old despite being just 28 herself.

Soon, Bollywood took notice, and she became known for her bold, sharp, and often negative roles in films like Beta, Gumraah, and Khiladi. One of her most memorable roles came as Shanti, the confidante of Reema Lagoo’s character in the blockbuster Hum Saath-Saath Hain.

Personal Struggles and First Marriage

Behind the screen success, Kunickaa faced a turbulent personal life. At just 18, she married a man 13 years older than her. The marriage soon turned bitter, and despite welcoming a son, differences pushed her to walk out. What followed was an exhausting eight-year custody battle, which she eventually gave up when her son himself requested an end to the painful conflict.

Second Chances in Love

Later, at 35, she married again—this time to a man from the United States. The marriage brought her another child, and for a while, she tried to settle into life abroad. But her strong desire to work in the entertainment industry brought her back to India. Eventually, this marriage too ended in divorce in 2006. Unlike her first, the separation was amicable, and Kunickaa raised her son as a single mother while balancing her acting commitments.

The Kumar Sanu Chapter

In the 1990s, Kunickaa hit headlines for her close relationship with playback singer Kumar Sanu. Although Kumar Sanu was still married during that period, he was said to be facing difficulties in his personal life, and Kunickaa stood by him as a source of comfort and strength. She often accompanied him to concerts, managed aspects of his personal life, and even admitted in an interview, “I was like a wife to him. I considered him my husband.”

Their bond lasted nearly five years, during which she even helped Sanu work on his fitness and style during the peak of his career. However, the relationship was not free of controversies. His wife, Rita Bhattacharya, once allegedly attacked Kunickaa’s car with a hockey stick in anger over delayed child support payments.

Kunickaa also revealed a shocking incident from those years: Sanu once attempted to end his life by trying to jump out of a hotel window while drunk. She, along with others, managed to pull him back and comfort him, which further deepened their emotional connection.

Despite their strong bond, the relationship eventually came to an end, and the two went their separate ways.
