Farah Khan Pays Off Cook Dilip’s Debt And Helps Him Build A House — ‘I’m Trying To Get It Done For Free’

Farah Khan has always been known for her blockbuster films and iconic choreography, but in the last year, she has won hearts for something far beyond cinema — her generosity. The celebrated filmmaker and YouTuber has transformed the life of her longtime cook, Dilip, in a way no one saw coming.
A Life-Changing Gift For Dilip
In a candid chat with Soha Ali Khan on the podcast All About Her, Farah opened up about the emotional and financial struggles Dilip faced before their YouTube journey took off. She revealed that he was drowning in debt for reasons even she couldn’t fully understand.
Farah recalled,
“He had a lot of debt... so the first year went into clearing that. I told him he cannot take loans on interest anymore because the money I’m giving him is disappearing into a well.”
Determined to give him a fresh start, she paid off every last rupee of his debt. Today, Dilip is out of the loan cycle and has begun building a future for his family — quite literally.
Helping Him Build A Home — Without Spending A Rupee
Farah shared that Dilip is now constructing a house, and the best part is that he is doing it without taking any loan this time. The filmmaker is going one step further to ensure that the home doesn’t become another burden for him.
In her own words,
“I’m trying to involve brands so that we can get his house made for free.”
Her efforts reflect not just financial assistance, but her determination to make Dilip financially secure and independent.
From ₹300 A Day To Major Earnings
The story of Dilip’s progress is nothing short of inspiring. In one of Farah’s vlogs featuring Ashneer Grover, it was revealed that Dilip once worked for ₹300 per day in Delhi. When he joined Farah’s household, his salary began at ₹20,000.
However, things changed dramatically after their YouTube channel took off. Farah publicly acknowledged that Dilip now earns far more than before and also receives a percentage from the channel’s revenue — something extremely rare in the domestic help community.
The YouTube Duo That Won Millions Of Hearts
Farah began her YouTube journey in April 2024 with light-hearted cooking vlogs featuring various celebrities. But it was Dilip’s innocent humour, confidence, and natural screen presence that turned him into an internet favourite.
Very soon, the duo was seen starring in major brand collaborations — the biggest one being a Myntra campaign featuring Shah Rukh Khan and Kiara Advani. Farah even fulfilled another dream for Dilip by taking him on his first international vacation to the Maldives.
Farah Khan — More Than A Filmmaker
While audiences know her for choreographing chartbusters like Chaiyya Chaiyya, Sheila Ki Jawani, Lovely, and directing films like Om Shanti Om, Main Hoon Na and Happy New Year, this compassionate side of her has touched people even more deeply.
The National Award-winning choreographer lives in Mumbai with husband Shirish Kunder and their three children. Yet despite her busy life, she has always treated Dilip not like an employee — but like family.
A Gesture Beyond Fame
Stories like this are rare in the glamour world. Farah Khan didn’t just help her cook financially; she helped rebuild his dignity, his future and his dreams. Her kindness is a reminder that real stardom lies not only in talent, but in humanity.
