As regional tensions between India and Pakistan intensify, Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) has released a detailed travel advisory aimed at maintaining passenger safety and smooth airport functioning.

Amid heightened security alerts triggered by ceasefire breaches and the launch of Operation Sindoor, several northern and western airports—such as Srinagar, Jammu, and Amritsar—have temporarily halted civilian air traffic until May 15. In response, Mumbai Airport has advised all travelers to prepare accordingly and comply with strengthened safety measures.

The airport’s advisory outlines essential instructions to ensure travelers experience minimal disruption. Key highlights include early check-ins, increased security checks, and the importance of remaining calm and vigilant throughout one’s journey.

Travel Guidelines: What to Do

  • Reach Early: Passengers are strongly encouraged to arrive at the airport well ahead of their scheduled departure to allow ample time for enhanced security procedures.
  • Carry Valid ID: Always have your passport, boarding pass, and a government-issued photo ID easily accessible for verification.
  • Pack Wisely: Follow baggage rules. Liquids should not exceed 100 ml per container, stored in a transparent zip-lock pouch.
  • Electronics Screening: Laptops and tablets must be placed in separate trays at security checkpoints.
  • Know What’s Banned: Refer to the airline or airport’s official website to check the list of prohibited items before packing.
  • Never Leave Bags Unattended: Unclaimed luggage may trigger emergency protocols.
  • Stay Informed: Keep track of airline notifications and airport announcements through apps, social media, or display boards.
  • Stay Alert: Immediately report any suspicious activity or unclaimed items to airport security personnel.
  • Cooperate with Checks: Be patient and respectful during any security inspection or questioning.

Things to Avoid

  • Avoid Jokes About Security: Refrain from making casual comments or jokes about weapons, bombs, or threats.
  • Don’t Carry Others’ Packages: Decline to carry items or bags on behalf of unknown individuals.
  • No Photos of Security Zones: Filming or photographing security staff or operations is strictly prohibited.
  • Don’t Block Checkpoints: Follow queue systems and signage to avoid crowding at gates or security areas.
  • Keep Emergency Exits Clear: Do not obstruct designated exits or emergency routes.
