Kedarnath Opens Doors to Devotees for 2025 Pilgrimage Yatra
With a floral spectacle and spiritual fervor, the Kedarnath Temple reopens its doors in the lap of the Himalayas.;
The Cool breath of the sacred Himalayan air echoed with chants of “Har Har Mahadev” as the ancient and revered Kedarnath Temple flung open its portals to devotees early Friday morning. Perched at over 11,000 feet, the temple greeted more than 12,000 pilgrims on day one, marking the beginning of the Char Dham yatra season with divine energy and vibrant devotion.
The temple was draped in a floral marvel—108 quintals of flowers from 54 varieties, including exotic roses and marigolds sourced from Nepal, Thailand, and Sri Lanka. The vivid hues and intoxicating aroma of newly bloomed petals wove enchantment into the soul-stirring spiritual journey.
Sacred Beginnings at Sunrise
The Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, Pushkar Singh Dhami, had the honor of offering the very first prayers at the temple once its gates were opened to devotees."
The day began in the early hours with preparations inside the sacred sanctum starting around 5 AM. By 7 AM, the Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee (BKTC) ceremoniously opened the temple’s inner sanctum to devotees. The auspicious moment was attended by prominent spiritual figures including Rawal Bhimashankar Ling and priest Bagesh Ling, along with MLA Asha Nautiyal, District Magistrate Saurabh Gaharwar, and BKTC Chief Executive Vijay Prasad Thapliyal, who all took part in the inaugural rituals.
A New Experience Awaits Devotees
This year brings a spiritual awakening to the Kedarnath pilgrimage. In a historic first, a soul-stirring "Kedarnath Aarti" will illuminate the sacred meeting point of the Mandakini and Saraswati rivers—an homage to the timeless river rituals of Varanasi, Haridwar, and Rishikesh. Newly built viewing platforms now invite pilgrims to witness this celestial offering beneath the starlit embrace of the Himalayas.
Char Dham Yatra in Full Swing
Kedarnath has become the third sacred site of the Char Dham circuit to welcome pilgrims this season, following the recent openings of Gangotri and Yamunotri on April 30. The final shrine, Badrinath, is set to open its gates to devotees on May 4. Among these holy destinations, Kedarnath remains the most visited, drawing lakhs of pilgrims from across India and abroad each year.
